You are invited to participate in our community-wide food drive in recognition of National Hunger Awareness Day, June 3. Many grocery stores in the Santa Clarita Valley will be hosting food drives to feed needy families, at their stores from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1. You can take your non-perishable food items to any participating location or purchase an extra item or two to donate while you’re at the store. This is a great opportunity to take advantage of “Buy one, get one free” and “10 for $10” promotions that many of the stores offer. As of submission deadline, the following stores will be participating in this community-wide food drive:
Albertson’s: Soledad Canyon Road and Sierra Highway Bouquet Canyon Road and Haskell and Copperhill Road.
Food 4 Less: Soledad Canyon Road and Whites Canyon
Pavillions: McBean Parkway and Magic Mountain Parkway.
Ralph’s: Castaic Road, Granary Square on McBean Parkway, Soledad Canyon Road and Whites Canyon, McBean Parkway and Decoro, Orchard Village Road and Lyons Avenue and Pico Canyon and The Old Road.
Smart & Final: Newhall Ranch Road and Rye Canyon
Stater Bros.: Sierra Highway and Via Princessa
Von’s: Soledad Canyon and Sand Canyon, Lyons Avenue, Bouquet Canyon Road and Newhall Ranch Road, The Old Road in Stevenson Ranch.
Whole Foods Market: Valencia Boulevard and McBean Parkway.
Hunger Defense Fund does not receive any government funding or subsidies. We rely solely on donations from the community to keep our shelves stocked. Over 8,400 Santa Clarita residents have received food since our opening in 2002. This food drive will help stock our shelves for the coming summer months when donations are traditionally the lowest. Many families who qualify for free and reduced price breakfast and lunch programs at schools for their children find it harder to make ends meet when they have to provide the many more meals at home when their children are out of school.
