When one thinks of an urgent care center, the first thing that comes to mind is simply a place to go for immediate medical attention, a place to go when your primary care physician is not available, or your situation does not merit a visit to the local emergency room. When SC Physicians Immediate Care (SCPIC) first opened its doors in December 2006, most of their patients anticipated nothing more than a typical urgent care center, however, they were pleasantly surprised.
When arriving at SCPIC patients are greeted by a friendly administrative staff, board certified doctors, nurses, and technicians. They will also notice the state-of-the-art laboratory that allows many lab results to be reported during the patients’ visit. The facility alsoâ¯has its own digital x-ray suite and for your convenience, there is an in-house pharmacy that carries most of the commonly prescribed medications. This in turn,â¯allows the patients toâ¯receiveâ¯all these servicesâ¯in one location.⯠â¯
The other difference you’ll notice with SCPIC is the concern and active involvement in the community. SCPIC sponsored a health fair in March 2007 and April 2008 which included other medical professionals and fitness establishments. Theâ¯eventâ¯offered fingerprinting and dental identification kits for children. Several local health and fitness facilities also showcased their services to our community.
Aside from health fairs, SCPICâ¯participated in the Walk for Diabetes and other activities including lectures on health and safety for school children and senior citizens.
The owners of SCPIC, Todd Arnold and Kevin Traber opened the urgent care center with a vision to change the way patients are treated. Their desire is to have patients receive the utmost care given to them in a timely manner. By involvement in community projects and patient education, their goal is to equip patients with information, so they can play an active role in their healthcare and learn about the resources available to them.
