Intermittent exposure to ultraviolet light, UVA or UVB, from sunlight accounts for 90 percent of the symptoms of premature skin aging including, wrinkles and sun-damage. With all of the anti-aging beauty remedies on the market today, sunscreen continues to be one of the most important skincare products available to prevent wrinkles. Unfortunately, most people do not use sunscreen correctly. Some important factors to consider with any sunscreen are the spectrum of the UV radiation absorbed, the amount of sunscreen applied and the frequency of the application. Additionally, sunscreens need to be applied at least a half-hour prior to any sun exposure. How many times do you see people applying sunscreen after they get to their destinations? Many of these people unknowingly, have already put themselves at risk of burning their skin.
Sunscreens should be at least SPF 15 or higher and contain avobenzone, titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide. It is most important to apply the proper amount of sunscreen and re-apply every two to four hours. Most people only apply 25 to 50 percent of the recommended amount. Sunscreens should be applied liberally enough to all sun-exposed areas so that it forms a light film when initially applied. It also should also be the last product applied to the face unless you are wearing a make-up foundation then it should be applied prior to the foundation. Otherwise sunscreen should be the very last product you apply to the rest of your body. Keep in mind when applying sunscreen that any products that may have been applied prior should be completely dry before applying your sunscreen.
