Two Santa Clarita Valley licensed home childcare providers/preschool teachers are using their earned award money for the good of SCV children.
Using the $1000 grant earned through the Betty Brady teacher award from the Southern California Kindergarten Conference earlier this year, Kathleen Shea and Mary Gregory developed a toy lending library for preschoolers and day care providers in the non-profit Family Day Care Association of the SCV.
Thinking in an entrepreneurial manner, the two award-winners approached local businesses to donate money to purchase additional items to add to the library, including big books and props for literacy, CDs, DVDs, a large motor skill development balancing outdoor set, musical instruments, alphabet toys, math and science toys, blocks, manipulative toys and teacher aprons.
The grant was given in honor of Betty Brady who was a founder of the Child Care Resource Center.
