A few years back, I faced the daunting task of finding high quality green products.  A client, who was light years ahead of the rest of us, decided on using only the most luxurious, eco-friendly fabrics in my designs.  This was a great idea at the time, but the implementation proved quite difficult in a world where green was not yet the “scene.”
Today, things are slowly changing.  More and more options are available to designers and consumers for those who are looking to lessen their own individual impact, while maintaining high-end quality of their desired décor.  Luxurious woven fabrics using natural fibers such as silk and hemp are emerging as a popular choice slowly becoming available to the open market.  Natural weaves and grass cloths are also becoming a popular option for wall coverings, rich in texture and color.  All natural dyes, devoid of harmful chemicals, are also becoming more plentiful in the color books of many designers and distributors of fine interior décor products.  Yet many manufacturers still offer only a few eco-friendly products in their library which meet the high expectations of quality designs.

So, I still find myself struggling a little bit to get the exact fabric in the right color using only the greenest materials.  Many of the options available are not local, making any right minded designer suspicious of the real quality.  Others are just plain to costly for any real application.  However, no matter the costs, this is a move we all need to make, both in the design industry as well as in our daily lives.

The demand for these products will only increase as they are incorporated into more and more designs and projects.
