If you love the music of some of the biggest shows in Broadway history like Les Miserables, Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar and Jekyll and Hyde, check out a one-night only performance at the College of the Canyons of the music from the blockbusters sung by the stars of the shows themselves. The show, titled Neil Berg’s 100 Years of Broadway, promises to be a musical theatre lover’s prize.
Broadway producer/composer, Neil Berg, during a phone interview with The Magazine of Santa Clarita, says, “As a composer, you have a different relationship with performers than you do when you’re producing. I’ve put together these Broadway singers for a nationwide tour to make a show that the every day person, like my mother, who loves musical theater, can enjoy. I’ve picked each and every one of them myself and put my name on it, not for vanity sake, but, I know how to match artists with the songs and that’s really important when you’re producing a show like this one. I’ve pulled them together because they have all starred in a Broadway show and have incredible voices.”
Among the performers in the show are handsome quintessential leading man Ron Bohmer from Phantom of the Opera, The Women in White and The Scarlet Pimpernel, Eric Buckley, star of Les Miserables and Rita Harvey, who played the role of Hodel in the Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof starring Rosie O’Donell and Harvey Fierstein. She made her Broadway debut performing the lead role of Christine Daee in The Phantom of the Opera.
“Rita is my favorite,” says Berg, and with good reason, she is his wife and mother of their 18-month-old son, Lucas, “When he grows up, I hope she has Rita’s voice and my baseball swing and not the other way around.”
At 42-years-old of age, Berg still finds the time and energy to play center field each year in all-state conference baseball. He says it’s one of his passions, besides musical theatre, his family and food.
The 100 Years of Broadway will be performed on April 25 at 8 p.m. and will feature an all-star New York band. Performer’s appearance is not guaranteed and is subject to change.
Ticket prices start at $25. For tickets, visit www.canyonsPAC.com or call the box office at 661-362-5304.
