With school back in season, having the kids gone all day gives you the time to get those chores done that were neglected all summer. A big issue a lot of homes have is organization. Start by going through all your clutter and getting rid of anything you don’t need. Chances are if you haven’t used it in the past year, it’s a safe bet that you won’t miss it later on. You can get rid of your discarded treasures by donating them to a reputable charity or have a garage sale for some much needed cash.
After your house is free of any unnecessary items, take the time to organize the rest of it! Invest in space savers for closets and garages. An investment now can save you headaches later. Large tupperware containers are great for large bulky items, while smaller photo boxes are a perfect way to store small items like photos, craft supplies, or costume jewelry. Large soup cans can be cleaned and decorated to hold markers. Just be sure to sand down the rim to avoid any sharp edges.
Make sure all boxes are neatly labeled in a way that you’ll be able to easily see what the contents are without having to take down each and every box to browse in order to find the one thing you’re looking for. When done organizing your home, you will feel like you’re in a brand new home, stress and worry free.
Another fun project is one you can do with your kids. Instead of sending them to school with the same bag as everyone else, decorate and personalize your own. You can pick up any plain totebag, backpack or messenger bag to decorate. Look mostly for form and function when it comes to picking out the bag instead of appearance, you’re just going to be changing that anyway! Then use decorative trims, rhinestones, puffy paint and even stamps and stamp pads to dress it up. Fabric can be added in shapes to create a fun applique image to a bag. Just use tacky or fabric glue to adhere your decoration any way you want on the bag. You can even sew it on if you’re inclined. You’ll have a one of a kind bag that shows off your individual personality, along with an original piece to show at school. Won’t their friends be jealous?
