This year’s Macy’s West 2008 Bag Hunger Food Drive collected over 3.5 million pounds of food for local communities throughout the nation.  In Santa Clarita, Macy’s Valencia exceeded its goal and through the generosity of the associates raised $1,709 which will be matched through Macy’s Employees Match Funds Program with another $1,360 plus an additional $500 for reaching “goal.”   The total donation from Macy’s Valencia through the Macy’s 2008 Bag Hunger Food Drive to the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry was $3,569.
“It’s wonderful when all of the associates on our team come together to benefit the community and to have Macy’s as an organization support you” said Robert Sleigh, Vice President Macy’s, Valencia.

“The Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry has seen a 58 percent increase in the number of clients served the first six month of 2008 compared to the same time last year.   We appreciate the  Macy’s Valencia associates and Macy’s West for their support and dedication to help those less fortunate in our community” said SCV Food Pantry executive director Belinda Crawford.

The Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry was established in 1986 by a small group of community volunteers.  The Pantry uses food donations from the community to provide supplemental food on a short-term basis to qualified local residents.  Volunteers work together to sort food, prepare and distribute bags to clients.
