As the City of Santa Clarita and the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts continue their voluntary automatic water softener removal program and prepare to require mandatory removal of automatic water softeners throughout the Santa Clarita Valley, there are few options left to homeowners who recognize the need for softened water.
The planned election which will take place in November is expected to authorize the removal of automatic water softeners that have been purchased and operated legally and ethically.  While rebate amounts are being offered they decline in value every month.  From the City’s and Sanitation Districts viewpoint this is necessary to reduce the salinity in the Santa Clara River where the sewage effluent flows following treatment.  While the removal of the automatic water softeners will mitigate the impact of the salt discharge currently in place, it will not solve their overall problem with discharge standards imposed on them by the Los Angeles Regional Quality Control Board.  The excess sewer charges being discussed will not be eliminated, at best only delayed.  And, more importantly, homeowners throughout the Valley will have to deal with other ways to eliminate the damage done by hard water.

Other than a portable exchange softening service, which is expensive and only softens an established amount of water that is often well below minimal standards, an alternative treatment modality is the only choice available to homeowners.  The protection of plumbing and water using appliances remains a concern only for the residents, not a concern of the City or the Sanitation District.

EcoPur by Dupure International offers the only independently certified third party product to remove and prevent hard water scale.  ScaleStop, a product of NEXTFiltration, is included in all EcoPur Systems sold and serviced by DuPure International.  Others may claim to treat hard water scale but none have been certified by any independent third party to be effective.  Isn’t the plumbing and protection as well as efficiency of your water using appliances worth protecting?
Additionally, EcoPur Systems include filtration products that will remove chlorine, suspended particles and contaminants resulting in bottled water quality water at every tap in your home.  The bottom line here is that you can protect your plumbing and water using appliances, drink filtered bottled water quality water from every tap and be compliant with all local efforts to eliminate salinity from the Santa Clara River.
