When I was a little girl there were two things I loved.  Dogs, any kind of dog, as well as my dolls and buying clothes for them.  My mother took me to the five and dime and let me buy an outfit or two whenever we shopped there.

She even made clothes for them.  I would dress them for day, for sleep, for parties.  I played with them until I was eleven.  I stopped because a really cute delivery boy came to deliver something and saw me with my dolls and said “Aren’t you too big to play with dolls?”

Now as for dogs, my mother said, “Animals don’t belong in the house.”  I had to wait until I was married to Randy to get a dog.  One day he came home from a walk and said, “There is a sign in the pet store saying Beagles are coming.”  Two weeks later, I went and saw the cutest, littlest, most adorable batch of Beagles.  One little girl caught my eye.  She was the smallest and really sweet.  I couldn’t stop thinking about her.  I took my best friend to see her.  I went back alone and again when Randy came home from doing a gig on the road.

That day we took Lucy home.  The minute we put her on the floor, she ran behind the television and pooped on the connection wires.  Randy kept saying “Of all places!”  I couldn’t stop laughing at how funny he was acting about it. That night we fenced her in the kitchen and she yelped like crazy, so I put her in bed between us.  That’s all she wanted!  We were hooked.  She became our baby.

Lucy is nine years old now and I love to dress her up in different costumes I dream up.  Randy came home from a three week gig on a cruise ship and I showed him a dozen photos of Lucy in different outfits.  He looked at them and said “I think I’ve been away too long!”  We really laughed.  We love to make each other laugh.  It’s one of the reasons we will be married 23 years in December.
