Before making any decision, you need “information.” When it comes to estate planning, I want my clients to truly understand what they are doing, not just sign a bunch of documents. In order to understand what you are doing, I think information is key, which is why I offer the following information to anyone who asks for it. Armed with this information, you can better make the choices you need to make when it comes to properly planning your estate. Also, with this information, you will have an easier time understanding your attorney’s recommendations.
Please let me send you my “Estate Planning Information Package.” If you have any curiosity about estate planning for you and your family, I think you will find the package quite helpful.
First, you will receive my new audio compact disc that outlines the fundamentals of estate planning. I’ve always wanted to create a CD like this, because it’s an easy way to teach people about estate planning. All you have to do is listen – at home or in your car. At about 40 minutes long, it is presented using plain language – no “legalese.” If you want to learn more about living trusts, wills, probate, joint tenancy, gifting, estate taxes, etc., I think you will enjoy this disc.
Second, I will send you a brochure entitled, “Understanding Living Trusts” which does a terrific job of explaining the basics of living trusts. Included is a handy chart that outlines the basic differences between a will and a living trust.
Third, I will send you a brochure created by the California State Bar entitled “Do I Need Estate Planning?” This brochure describes in general terms the estate planning process, persons who could benefit from estate planning, and the differences between wills and revocable living trusts. The brochure also briefly describes probate, the importance of choosing the right trustee/executor, and general considerations in disposing of property at death. It’s a great introduction to estate planning.
Finally, also included in the package is a brochure that provides you with information about my law practice, my background, areas of practice and more.
