When he’s not attending meetings and tending to bank duties, James D. Hicken, president and CEO of Bank of Santa Clarita, focuses his keen business sense and unique skills on two organizations whose contributions in the community transform lives.
As a non-profit hospital deeply committed to the community, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital’s mission is to improve the health and quality of life for the community they serve. Goodwill Southern California is known for its service programs designed to improve the quality of life for people with physical, mental and developmental disabilities.
Hicken knew that a partnership between Henry Mayo and Goodwill could create a myriad of opportunities, and his influence and determination to make positive changes for all concerned resulted in a contract for Goodwill to provide secure shredding and recycling services to Henry Mayo.
“Having a partner like Henry Mayo provides Goodwill with additional resources that help us to focus on our mission to transform lives through the power of work,” said James Hicken, president and CEO of Bank of Santa Clarita as well as board chairman for both Henry Mayo and Goodwill Southern California. “It only makes sense to work together to achieve a higher level of performance.”
Goodwill’s mission is to help individuals with barriers to employment become self sufficient through job training and placement. In 2007, Goodwill Southern California provided education, training and job opportunities to 31,000 people with disabilities, homeless persons, veterans, families in poverty, ex-offenders and many others in need.
“The success of this partnership is a great example of the positive impact we can make by working together to enhance the quality of life for people in our community and help them become more self-sufficient and productive,” responded Roger Seaver, president and CEO of Henry Mayo. “We view this as a great opportunity which benefits everyone, and look forward to continuing our partnership.”
