Mix a cardiologist with a rapper, author and a friend, and you get Dr. Samuel A. Kojoglanian, a.k.a. Dr. Rap, Dr. Sam, Dr. K.  Whatever his title, his mission in life is simple:”Mend hearts, heal souls, and rock this planet.”  He lives to inspire.  He loves to heal. He’s a man unlike any other.

When you walk into the office of Dr. Kojoglanian, you can’t help but feel inspired and motivated, and it didn’t take long for me to realize it.  It was a simple and gracious hello by the friendly manager/receptionist, Arpy, it was a warm smile and greeting from Daniel, the medical assistant.  And then there’s Dr. Kojoglanian—an interventional cardiologist based here in Santa Clarita.  He’s truly a “Mender of Hearts” as his office name reflects.  He lives to repair, rebuild and renew the hearts and souls of those who come to him.

Though my heart generally races when entering a doctor’s office, I surely thought this cardiologist would diagnose me on the spot.  But he didn’t.  In fact, I’ve never felt so welcomed and relaxed, much like visiting family.  And that’s because Dr. Sam, as I call him, truly cares for those around him.  “I want my office to be a sanctuary where my patients leave happier and stronger,” states Dr. Sam.

Aside from cardiology, Dr. Sam has written several inspirational books.  He’s a man with many talents.  He has a story and he wants to share it, he has a dream and he wants to live it.  Playing on Your Last String, written for anyone with a dream, challenges you to “come out of your comfort zone” to reach your dreams and aspirations.  As Dr. Sam states, “This book will provide you with strength for today and hope for tomorrow.”  Mirror Mirror on the Wall, and Not on my Shift, also have similar themes.  It’s about having a winning attitude, a solid determination to reach your goals, despite the obstacles that come your way.

Dr. Sam, a.k.a. Dr. Rap, also has three CD’s titled Licensed to Heal, Cut to the Heart, and Outrageous Healer. He raps to jar us out of our complacency and instill in us hope. The lyrics to his songs are deep and meaningful.  “There’s no color, there is no race, in unity there’s power…Someday we’ll see it all in the world of love.”

It’s no surprise that Dr. Sam is a big hit with the kids as well.  He’s authored a children’s book titled, Friends with Tommie Bear.  It’s about a bear that “loves people, lives life with passion and gives from his heart at all times.”  Tommie Bear, modeled after Dr. Sam’s real life friend, Tom Barnett, is funny, kind, giving, helpful, smart, humble and loving.  Seems to me that Dr. Sam has many of the same qualities of Tommie Bear, himself.  While off duty from the hospital, Dr. Sam spends much of his time visiting schools, churches, youth groups and prisons, where he continues to help others by inspiring and guiding young people to build character, stay in school, stay off drugs and help one another.  Be on the lookout for another Tommie Bear book as Tommie Bear Goes to School is set to debut in the near future.

Visit Dr. Sam’s office and you’re sure to get the best treatment possible. His specialty is angioplasty (ballooning and stenting arteries) and he emphasizes prevention in the Apple Street office by evaluating blood pressure and cholesterol, performing a full cardiovascular history and physical, treadmill testing, encouraging his patients to exercise, and helping them to stop smoking and loose weight. He covers both Henry Mayo and Holy Cross Hospitals. In an effort to go green, the office has enlisted in electronic medical recording to conserve paper and help the environment.
