Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley Improving the Lives of Women through Service, Advocacy and Awareness.
Zonta Club’s September 22 LifeForward Workshop “Awareness & Understanding Issues Impacting Our Youth!” brought important and timely information about the issues and dangers our youth face as computers and cell phones bring the world into our homes, hands and lives. Presenter, Chris Jones, Licensed Educational Psychologist and co-author of Project Friendship, a research based anti-bullying program, spoke to an audience of parents and teens from the local high school districts, grandmothers, and other attendees about how to help our youth stop bullying – both in person and on the Internet. Useful tips were presented about how to help youth be aware of the importance of and how to protect personal information (passwords, etc.), sites to avoid and “never respond to someone you do not know”. Detective Ray Bercini of Los Angeles County Human Trafficking spoke about the dark-side of the Cyber-World and supported the importance of protecting personal information and other tips previously discussed. Ray also provided websites to avoid; he detailed ways that perpetrators lure vulnerable youth – girls and boys – into the slavery world of sex and work Human Trafficking! As one attendee stated, “Excellent- horrifying, but necessary topics!”
