The colors of 2008 are changing in order to fit new color trends predicted for 2009.  What we thought of as red might not be the same red we see in many new and upcoming designs in the next twelve months.  That’s what innovators at the 2009-2010 International Window Coverings Expo highlighted in their exclusive GMI style trends, which outlined some of the new color changes grouped into four trendy palettes:  Jet Set Next, Dramatical, More Adventuress, and Boho Soul.  These color palates are diversifying the popular use of particular hues together to create new and alluring looks in all facets of interior décor.

Although trend changes in popular color palettes tend to always be subtle, this year does provide small changes in a variety of everyone’s favorite colors.  The reigning natural color palettes, which have seen so much success in the past few years due to the popular move towards more organic décor styles, will continue to dominate designs, yet with combinations of brighter and straighter forward colors.  Many of these brighter color hues are coming from Eastern influences, using the bright orange reds and luscious purples seen in Southeast Asian and Indian cultures.  These more vibrant colors will begin to bring new life into the duller earth tone colors which still remain popular thanks to the organic simplicity they inspire.

So what are some of the greatest changes in colors coming this season?  Reds will go through the most changes in popular hues, with more and more designers choosing brighter reds heavily influenced by orange hues rather than deep purples.  Oranges themselves will continue to blend the traditional brown hues with much brighter tangerine inspired palettes.  Yellows will move towards much brighter luminosity, bringing a joyful breath into designs that previously relied on heavy golds.  Along with these brighter and more playful additions, the earth tone greens, blues, browns and other neutrals will be incorporated to create a much deeper color palette, full of a wide range of color varieties.

Yet, this concept may not fully resonate within the minds of many average citizens, who have not been on the up and up concerning new trends in décor.  Most wouldn’t even notice such trends changing even if they were to be in the middle of picking a color palette for their own designs.  However, as this expanded use of colors continues to enter into the spaces we all live and work in, many previously in the dark will begin to see much brighter responses.
