Fresh Xpress recently compared the cost of its service to three local supermarkets and found it saves its customers about 40 percent on average.
Fresh Xpress is a locally owned business that delivers fresh produce to customers in the Santa Clarita Valley on a weekly basis.  A professional chef not only selects more than a dozen different types of fruits and vegetables for each box, but also tailors a unique recipe for it.

“When it comes to home delivery services, customers often think of them as a luxury,” said Fiona Soukup, owner and professional chef.  “With Fresh Xpress, it’s quite the opposite.  We buy our produce in bulk directly from the Farmer’s Market and therefore can offer our customers a great price for produce at its peak nutritional value.”

In the comparison shopping visits conducted at Albertsons, Ralphs and Vons, a $30 Fresh Xpress delivery box compared to an average $42.60 store purchase.  Soukup added, “And this doesn’t including your time, gas, and the recipe that comes with your delivery.”

Regular weekly deliveries range from $25 to $40, depending on the family’s size. A 100 percent organic box, containing eight to 10 items, costs $45.  Cage-free, farm fresh eggs are also available for $3 for one dozen.

“By creating a recipe each week for my customers, I introduce them to new ingredients and flavors,” said Soukup, who created the delivery service out of a desire to use her cooking expertise to encourage others to eat healthy.

Although a recipe is not included with the new organic-only box because the variety is limited, Soukup hopes that will change over time.

Fresh Xpress serves the Santa Clarita area, including Acton, Agua Dulce, Canyon Country, Castaic, Newhall, Saugus, Stevenson Ranch, Valencia, and Val Verde. Unlike similar services, Fresh Xpress customers are not obligated to sign a contract and have some customization available to them.
