My family and I were at our all time favorite breakfast place, Starlite Café in Newhall, the weekend of the Sarye fire. We were in kind of a hurry so seeing people in line ahead of us was discouraging at that particular moment.
Apparently, there was a very large to-go order being prepared so the customers in the restaurant were waiting to place their orders. Again, somewhat discouraging. As it turns out, Starlite was delivering food to the fire fighters who were on standby at Sierra Highway and The Old Road. They had been on the line all night without a rest and I would imagine very hungry.
Enter my family and me, in a hurry for breakfast and to get on with our day. Our home not threatened by the fires and the entire day to enjoy for ourselves, I took a moment to appreciate our situation, or lack there of, and we waited to place our order.
In every catastrophe there are those of us who will do whatever we can to help others. I would like to acknowledge Teresa, and Ruben Marquez, the owners of Starlite Café, for their kindness and contribution to those who worked so very hard for all of us to keep our homes and our families safe.
In support of Teresa and Ruben, as a thank you, if you will, I would like to buy their customers a coffee with breakfast. During the month of January, please present this ad when ordering any breakfast plate, and your coffee or tea will be on me.
I hope those of you reading this add who have never visited Starlite will join me in saluting their kindness to our Heroes and become regulars. The residents of the Santa Clarita Valley have a reputation of sticking together when the going gets tuff so lets support those that contributed something during our past emergency.
As we enter this New Year, I for one am counting my blessings and wish each and everyone a Happy and Healthful New Year. Thank You and good health to all.
Starlite is located on Lyons Ave at Orchard Village next to Rite Aid. For more information, please call 661-291-1909.
