On December 15, 2008 Santa Clarita Artists’Association (SCAA) inducted a new president, Laurie Morgan, to lead them through the 2009 season of adventures in art and to pursue the goal of making visual art visible in Santa Clarita.
“My goals for the SCAA is to form a greater partnership with the city of Santa Clarita, have our members’ artwork exhibited even more throughout the valley and to hold free art workshops with the help of grants and local sponsorship funding,” says Laurie.
After college Laurie began a career as a band singer; touring the U.S. in rock, country and disco groups including a four-month solo engagement in Japan. After more than 10 years of performing, she took time off for marriage and to raise three sons. Currently she works as an actress in commercials, film, television and theater in the Los Angeles area and is a commercial talent agent.
“Painting is my passion, and my occupation is acting. Many of my pieces have windows, arches and pathways,” says Laurie. “They represent to me adventure, surprise and spirituality. I truly love to perform and to create art – but whether I’m singing, acting or creating a painting, is how I’m able to touch people’s lives. With my arts I have been blessed to be able to turn strangers into friends, and I am sincerely grateful for this gift.”
These Santa Clarita Artists’ Association monthly meetings are held at the Westfield Town Center Community Room, between JC Penny and the Food Court; and are informative and inspirational. Non-members are also welcomed and may attend their first meeting for free.
