Setting school history, the Valencia High School Dance Team won the National Championship Title for large jazz dance and the National Championship Title for large character dance.

This was the first time that the VHS dance team competed for four different championship titles in four different categories at the United Spirit Association national finals held March 24 at the Anaheim Convention Center.  Of the four dances, the team won two first place Championship titles and two third place awards for small lyrical and intermediate jazz dances.  In addition, the group took second runner up for the overall Sweepstakes award.

“This is the first time that we’ve qualified four of our five dances to compete in the final championship rounds,” said Dance Team Advisor Eve Itaya. “Then, to take two national championship titles along with two third place awards is unbelievable.  The team has worked so hard all year.  It is wonderful for them to finish the competition season with top awards bringing honor to themselves and their hard work and honor to Valencia High School.”

Members of the dance team are Gaby Angulo, Brittany Bayley, Alex Chernos, Sarah Chun-Hoon, Morgan Dykes, Rachel Giron, Sierra Gordon, Laura Greenwald, Becca Herd, Catherine Herrick, Sara Hicks, Chelsea Itaya, Shea Jackson, Caitlin Kube, Lindsay Lang, Kirsten Lynskey, Alex Mezo, Jennifer Novak, Alexandra Skorniakoff, Chrissy Spengler, Danielle Uhrig and Nicole Zibach.
