You wouldn’t think of hitting the beach for that volleyball game without applying your sunscreen.  But how many people would think that hitting the slopes for a day of snowboarding would require the same amount or more sun protection than at the beach?
Snow reflection increases UV intensity 35 percent more than water reflection.  If you’re heading to the mountains for a winter sport activity, don’t forget your sunscreen.  And don’t think that cloud cover provides you with any protection from the sun’s UVA (aging rays).  UVA penetrates the clouds and continues deep into the skin to cause long-term damage, such as sun-induced aging, and is a major cause of skin cancer.
Participating in outdoor sports requires a waterproof/sweat proof formula to ensure lasting protection against sun damage.  A higher SPF is recommended to ensure full protection for the entire time you are playing your sport.  Re-application is always recommended even with a waterproof formula when excessive sweating or water exposure is present.

Don’t skimp when applying your sunscreen.  Most people only apply half as much sunscreen as needed, spreading it too thinly and reducing the effectiveness of the product by 50 percent.  The average size adult should be using the equivalent of a full shot glass of liquid sunscreen over their entire body. Chemical sunscreen should always be applied at least 45 minutes prior to sun exposure to allow the sunscreen to be fully effective.  However if you are using a physical sun block (a sun block containing Titanium Dioxide and or Zinc Oxide as an active ingredient), protection is immediate.  For skiers, snowboarders, and winter sport enthusiasts consider sunscreen just as important as your hat, gloves, scarf, and goggles for optimal skin protection.

Sunscreens now come in easy-to-apply powder forms that make re-application a breeze.  With an SPF of 30 and 12 percent Titanium Dioxide and 12 percent Zinc Oxide, this powder sunscreen works just as well as other liquid forms and retains SPF after 80 minutes of activity in the water.  Ultra sleek packaging makes powder sunscreen easily portable, just slip it in your pocket and hit the slopes.   If used on face only, a single powder sunscreen can last up to nine months, making it cost effective also.
