The eight tasty side dishes that were first brought to my table were a great way to start my appetizing experience at So Kong Dong. The Korean Barbeque and Tofu House serves up delicious meals infused with traditional Korean flavors. All of the side dishes come complimentary before each meal so be sure and come hungry. Kimchi, potato and macaroni salad, potato pancakes, radish, sprouts, fish cakes and their popular potato noodles with vegetables were waiting for me to dive right in. The sides change daily, but with this much variety thereís enough appetizing bites to start your meal off right.
Juicy, tender barbeque beef ribs and spicy pork entrees were served next. For $8.99 these lunch specials come at a great price. The barbequed meat was served sizzling on onions and garnished with scallops. It was flavorful and cooked to perfection. No more waiting in line at the drive-thru to order a number 10 with fries. This tofu house provides quality food at great prices.
For a real treat, get the tofu soup. You can choose from seafood, beef pork, mushroom or curry and even choose how much spice you want. Order non-spicy, mild, spicy or if you dare, go for the extra spicy. We were fortunate to try the seafood tofu soup, which was loaded with great pieces of seafood, tofu and vegetables. They brought out the boiling soup in a stone bowl with an egg on the side.
And then came the fun part. Owner Jaie Oh cracked the egg straight into the sizzling soup and we watched as it cooked. Going out to eat just got a little more engaging. The tofu soup comes at $8.95 and was a great addition to our meal.
Next came a meal served in a hot stone pot. We didn’t travel back to the caveman days to eat out of a stone bowl, but we did stumble across the very popular dish full of rice, vegetables and barbeque beef.
The rice sits directly on the bottom of the stone pot and creates a crispy crust, which adds a great texture to the dish. The hot stone meal comes topped with barbeque beef or Masago (fish eggs). You can order it vegetarian too. Whatever youíre craving, they offer. The stone pot price varies from $8.99 to $10.99 depending on the meat you order.
We looked at our table once we were done and saw our damage. The barbeque beef ribs were all but gone, our side bowls were almost empty and all that was left of the hot stone pot dish was the pot.
We were pleasantly full of delicious food. If youíre looking for a fresh, new place to try come visit So Kong Dong. The food is full of flavor and fun, and it all comes at a great price.
