While studying about shoulder aches, I discovered that TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint, or simply, the jaw) plays a large role in overall health. An unbalanced TMJ causes pain in many different body parts including the shoulders. With the knowledge of TMJ’s importance in keeping a healthy and pain-free body, I went to Korea to learn how to fix the problems that have to do with the unbalance of TMJ.
Unbalance of TMJ can cause various aches and sores in body parts including; head, neck, shoulder, arm, hip, and the knees. These pains worsen chronologically from top to bottom as the problem proceeds. There is a way to fix this unbalance through Asian medicine. It is best to treat it before the whole body is in pain. Although it may take some time for complete balance, patients are pain free during treatment intervals.
Balancing the TMJ requires persistent rounds of treatments. These treatments greatly decrease, if not eliminate, the pain and heal the ultimate cause of the aches. Two to three treatments per week are sufficient in general cases, but in serious cases, receiving daily treatments for a certain amount of time is best. Excessive consumption of food is the reason behind a crooked TMJ. The TMJ becomes unbalanced because on top of the excessive eating, people tend to use only one side of the jaw to chew on food. Tough foods such as jerkies, nuts, and gum are a big factor of tiring out the TMJ. As one side of the TMJ is overused, the body tries to strengthen it by adding mass and strength to that jaw, which causes it to tilt. This causes the Cervical Bone to lean the other way, which forces the Spinal Cord to tilt the opposite way of the Cervical Bone. As the TMJ tilts more and more, the unbalance reaches the pelvis, causing excruciating pain in the hips and knees. TMJ treatment requires patience from both the patient and the doctor because although the aches may subside through treatments, if not treated persistently, the pain will definitely come back in days. Because TMJ imbalance forms through habitual behaviors, the TMJ will go back to its abnormal position, causing the imbalance all over again.
