If you’re looking to “go green,” then antiques and collectibles can be a wonderful place to start.  From furniture to dinnerware, decorator items to vintage textiles and, yes, even old tools and car parts.  Many of these items can be found where antiques and collectibles are sold.  There are auctions houses, antique stores, garage sales, thrift stores, swap meets, print ads Craig’s List, eBay and more.
The word “antique” tends to connote pricey, but that is not necessarily the case.  Often you can put together a complete dinner set for far less money than the local department stores and have a lot of fun doing it.  Furniture pieces, large and small, can be found at prices that would compete with or beat those of the local furniture stores. Better yet, they could hold their value or even appreciate, when cared for properly.

Decorating with your treasures can also bring tremendous satisfaction.  You can let your creative juices flow mixing and matching colors and textures or different periods of time.  Locating your favorite collectibles, whether they are expensive oils or charming little Wade Whimsy’s becomes an adventure and a once-dismal corner can be brightened and come alive with character, your character.

The best part of all? These previously owned wonders have brought similar joy at a different time and place, and, sometime in the future, will again bring joy, and the cycle continues.
