The Santa Clarita Artists’ Association (SCAA) April 20, 2009 meeting at 7 p.m. will feature W. Bradley Elsberry.  Bradley will be talking about and showing modern digital techniques to create better compositions and speed the layout process in order to get to the actual process of painting.
“I will explain the old master style glazing I use in my romantic naturalistic style.  I work in the tradition of the American Sublime style dating back to the Hudson River school of painting,” he says.

After extensive field work with his camera, Brad manipulates his digital images to build a study embodying the desired goals of his artwork. Then on the canvas he paints in an “old master” glaze technique, executed in acrylic paint that requires working countless dozens of thin layers of glaze across each painting.  He explains, “I hope to reveal a special moment in time when the weather and time of day create extraordinary air and light.  I bring this together with the myriad details of the leaves and rocks and water to emulate the beautiful spectacle of nature.”

His largest public work is the Irvine Transportation Center’s 50-foot wide Irvine: Voyages and Transitions historical mural.  His paintings are available at Aspen Grove Fine Arts in Aspen Colorado and Indian Territory, and the Lu Martin galleries in Laguna Beach.  You may view Bradley’s work at www.wbradleyelsberry.com .

The Santa Clarita Artists’ Association monthly meetings are held at the Westfield Town Center Community Room, between JC Penney and the Food Court, and are instructive and inspirational.  Non-members are also welcome and may attend their first meeting for free.
