On Wednesday, April 29, thirty-two local youth from various Santa Clarita Valley Junior and Senior High Schools were honored at the Hero of the Week Recognition ceremony hosted by the City of Santa Clarita’s Anti-Gang Task Force. Youth were recognized for displaying leadership qualities, having the strength to overcome obstacles and showing perseverance in their lives. The event was held at the Santa Clarita Activities Center and over 100 people attended.
Junior high and high school students are selected by their own teachers and principals throughout the year for their dedication, work ethic and actions. “These 32 kids are being recognized for their hard work and outstanding character and we are pleased to commend them,” said Mayor Frank Ferry. “Their actions set a positive example for their peers and they are role models for the entire community.”
Students received commendations from United States Congressman Howard Buck McKeon, Senator George Runner, Senator Tony Strickland, Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich, the City and other local businesses.
