Last month, we asked writers to express their love and appreciation for their Mother’s in the form of an essay. After careful scrutiny, we’re named the winner of The Magazine of Santa Clarita Mother’s Day essay contest.
Linda Scotto wrote an honest and meaningful description about why her Mom, Esther Padro, is the best and for that she has won a color-themed make-up application valued at $55, a $60 gift certificate to dine at the Roast House, a pair of sterling silver Swarovski earrings ($30 value) donated by CSTMZ and a $50 gift certificate from Sunflorist. Congratulations! Printed below is the winning essay:
“My mom deserves the best because she is the most unselfish, caring and thoughtful individual you will ever meet. When I became pregnant with our twin boys, my mom offered to help in the last months of my pregnancy and the first months after their birth. Leaving behind her husband, home and newly retired lifestyle, a few months turned into a year. I don’t know how I would have survived without her during that time. Shortly after returning home, my mom and her husband made the huge decision to sell their home in Northern California and move to Santa Clarita. It was a huge sacrifice but if you ask my mom, she never regretted the decision or looked back.
My mom sacrifices so much for her three children. She has always put her children first in her life and the decisions she makes. She is just a genuinely nice, caring human being that anyone would be lucky to meet. My mom is the lady at the grocery check-out line who strikes up a friendly conversation to complete strangers. She’s the one who hand-writes thank-you notes and sends cards for every occasion. It’s true she’s not the most technically advanced person but she loves the personal touch of a written note and making phone calls, not emails to family and friends. Hers is the first card you’re likely to receive at the holidays. If you look at her kitchen calendar, it’s full of birthdays and anniversaries of all our family members, extended family members and just about every friend she has ever met.
My mom deserves the fancy dinner and beautiful gifts but most of all and really what matters, is she deserves to know that she is the best.”
Happy Mother’s Day to everyone!
