At 32 years old, I was ready to accept my body for what it is. Little did I know that my boudoir portrait experience was going to be one of celebration and self-realization. Two major life events had just occurred: marriage and my first marathon. It was the perfect time for boudoir photos. A wedding gift to my husband and a reward for me. It was a time to call a truce with myself, accept my body, and give myself a pat on the back for my marathon accomplishment.
A few months ago, I was exhibiting my fine art jewelry at an art festival in Palm Springs. It was a very serendipitous meeting that day. I had been perusing the Internet searching for a photographer, and here she was at my booth, a genuine artist with an unbelievable talent. Finding Maureen, owner and photographer of Intimate Portraits The Art of Maureen Benoit was a true gift. The photo shoot experience was amazing. I felt completely comfortable. Really, how many women can say that of any experience when they are standing in their birthday suit in front of anyone, let alone a camera? But it is absolutely true, it was very apparent from the beginning that her professionalism was supreme and that put me at ease. I had a great time! She really played up my fun, flirty side and captured it all beautifully. I’m not ashamed to say that I cried when I first saw my photographs. I had never in my whole life been able to see myself as a beautiful, confident woman. The photographer gave me such a gift that day; she showed me who I really am. When I look at her photographs, it’s undeniable. I came to Maureen thinking that my boudoir photographs would be a wedding gift for my new husband. My husband and I received a much bigger gift. I am able to celebrate my beautiful self and my newfound confidence. My husband is so proud that I did this, not because of the courage it takes to be so vulnerable, but so proud of me that I finally see myself the way he does.
