On October 12, something funny is going on at Robinson Ranch Golf Course. That will be the day of the J.R.’s Comedy Club Celebrity Golf Classic, benefiting the Santa Clarita Homeless Shelter.
J.R.’s Comedy Club has been active with fundraisers and charitable events for over 11 years. For several years we have been hoping to produce a charity golf tournament. We are proud to be part of this very worthwhile event.
This will be the most fun ever had on a golf course. Each foursome will be playing golf with a nationally known headline comedian. There will be laughs all day on the course, and after the golf, there will be a gala dinner, followed by a comedy show with many of the comedians sharing their talent.
We have tentative commitment from over twenty of the best comedians in the country, including Dave Coulier (Uncle Joey from TV’s Full House), Craig Shoemaker (The Lovemaster), and Tom Dreesen (Frank Sinatra’s opening act). All of these guys are funny, and most of them are pretty good golfers.
All of the proceeds from this event will be going to the Santa Clarita Homeless Shelter. Many people do not even know that there is a homeless shelter in Santa Clarita. Thanks to many people’s generous hearts, this shelter has been operating since 1997. Last year alone, the shelter served 222 men, women, and children. They were provided, three hot meals, a warm place to sleep, shower and bathroom facilities, and counseling to get back on their feet or to get medical help. Fifteen sheltered families found homes, work, or both. Twenty-three single individuals were placed in jobs.
In these difficult times, their meager funding has been cut. Your help is needed more than ever. There are many ways you can help.
If you own a business, you can become a sponsor of the event. You can also buy a sign, which will display your business on one of the tee boxes. You can organize a foursome to play golf. You can donate items for our silent auctions. We need volunteers of all sorts. Donations of bottled wine, or soft drinks, or items for our goodie bags, will all be appreciated. Your word of mouth will also be one of the most effective ways to publicize our day.
You can also buy tickets for just the dinner and the comedy show. They will be just $75 each.
Please help us in any way you can. Let’s all thank God we have a place to sleep, and food to eat, and give back a little to those of us who are struggling.
