On any given day, most of us have unlimited opportunities to choose what we wish to do during our leisure time. Here in the Santa Clarita Valley, we have easy access to the mountains, beach, parks, amusement parks, malls, libraries, college classes, restaurants, sports centers, movies, etc. We can hop in our cars to visit our friends and family members. However, teenagers and adults who are disabled are often confronted with a daunting array of challenges in their efforts to lead enriched, happy, and fulfilled lives. Barriers for individuals with disabilities include inaccessible environments, insufficient transportation, lack of affordable activities as a result of limited employment and low incomes, and most importantly, a lack of appropriate leisure, recreation and socially inclusive opportunities.
LETMESAIL a Santa Clarita Valley non-profit organization offers free and affordable social, recreational and educational opportunities for the disabled. Currently, these activities are held at different locations throughout the Santa Clarita Valley. Once LETMESAIL secures an appropriate facility, activities such as, art, kickboxing, wellness classes, and drama club will be held in a consistent location. It will also be a place where teenagers and adults with physical, mental, and medical disabilities can come and “hang out,” socialize and feel accepted.

This event celebrates National Disabilities Employment Awareness month. This year we are proud to present former Major League Baseball Pitcher Jim Abbott. Born with one hand, Jim will share his inspirational story of how he overcame his disability and became a successful baseball pitcher.
