There is a major difference between what we want and what we need. The reality is, we may not have everything we want, but thank God we have everything that we need. The key words in the model prayer are, “Give us this day our daily bread.” Instead of stressing out over what you may or may not have tomorrow, thank God for what you do have today. Thank God that He always gets you through the day. Often times we neglect to thank God for our presently confirmed blessings of today because we are too focused on the potential unconfirmed problems of tomorrow. Tomorrow will take care of itself. Let tomorrow be tomorrow and today be today. Thank God that He is seeing you through today. Thank God that He always provides daily bread.
Thank God that in spite of not having everything you may want, you certainly have everything you need. You may say, “Pastor, how do I know I have everything that I need?” I say, “Because you’re still here! You’re still functioning. You haven’t lost your mind. You haven’t thrown in the towel. You haven’t gone crazy. Why? Because though you may not have everything you want, the presence of everything you need keeps you moving.” You may say, “But I don’t even have a job.” I say, “Well then you really should be thanking God, because how else do you explain being able to sustain yourself without a job. It’s because though you may not have everything you want, God has still managed to supply you with everything you need.” From this day forward, stop letting potential problems keep you from thanking God for His present blessings. Those things that you worry about may or may not happen, so there is no sense in letting them overshadow the blessings that have already happened. Whatever you do, be thankful for what you already have. I challenge everyone reading this to spend the week of Thanksgiving, not asking God for anything, but simply thanking God for everything.
