Fall is upon us as we feel a chill in the air, taking our children to their soccer games or staying home too watch Sunday football on our plasma television. As the changing seasons approach we begin wearing heavier clothes and begin eating heartier meals. For people watching the weight it is often difficult to start the holidays, since Halloween represents the starting gate to a holiday feasting frenzy. Then comes Christmas with parties and overcoats concealing our middle pouches, we begin to feel remorse come January from the aftermath of our indulgences.
What most of us do not realize is that there are starving children and families in our community that cannot experience such luxuries when their only focus is how they are going to get there next meal. In fact, on my last visit to the Help the Children Foundation they said that with the change in economy there food supply is extremely low, having little to give the families who show up every Saturday morning to pick up food. Many people have lost their jobs as well as their homes so more than ever we need to extend a helping hand. This is the season for giving thanks and remembering others less fortunate.
So instead of falling into the same routine year after year of overindulging, lets focus on others less fortunate by looking into our pantries and discarding all unnecessary food items. You will be surprised with the extra items that need to be discarded. All items will graciously be accepted behalf of the Help the Children Foundation at the Bali Health Institute with Dr. Ric Garrison or go to www.helpthechildren.org for more information on how you can help.
Remember to enjoy this season of giving, it’s not about the food, it is about family and friends coming together and being thankful for what we have.
