The lymphatic system is a type of secondary circulation system that is intertwined with the circulatory system.  The lymph is the body’s waste disposal system.  It is the primary system for nourishment and waste removal of tissue cells.  There are approximately 12 quarts of lymph in the body, compared to three quarts of blood plasma.
The functions of the lymphatic system include:

• Removal of pathogens, dyes, wastes and dead or dying cells

• Supporting healthy immune function as a major site of immune reactions

• Maintaining blood fluid volume

• Circulation of proteins

• Transportation of fats

• Connective tissue health

• Removal of excess water in the lymph

• Storage of organic matter

• Removal of impurities (carbon particles, cancer cells, pathogenic organisms and dead blood cells)

• Processing of lymphocytes (white blood cells)

Diseases are an expression of imbalance.  A healthy body can fight off viruses, bacteria, funguses, parasites and other microorganisms.  A healthy body has a strong, efficient lymph system.  A sluggish or congested lymph system can lead to imbalance, sickness and disease.  The challenge is that the lymph system does not have a pump.  The heart pumps the circulatory system, but there is no corresponding pump for the lymph system.  To keep the lymph system healthy and active, lymph flow must be externally stimulated.  Simple, effective ways for stimulating lymphatic flow include:

• Regular Exercise—walking, swimming and other cardiovascular exercises.

• Dry Skin Brushing—brushing toward the heart using a natural bristle brush on dry skin.

• Lymphatic Drainage Massage—Massage with a skilled practitioner that is specific to the lymph system.  Some therapists use vibrational energy technology to stimulate deep lymphatic movement and drainage.  This technology is photo-harmonic; it uses light and sound waves conducted throughout the entire bio-energy system of the body to balance, cleanse and open the paths of elimination.

• Deep Breathing—Deep breathing moves the diaphragm which pumps the lymphatic system in the abdominal and thoracic cavities.

• Rebounding Exercises—Gently bouncing (no air) on a mini trampoline.

• Infrared Saunas—Deeply penetrate the cells and stimulate detoxification and lymph flow.

• Colon Hydrotherapy—The lymph system dumps toxins in the colon.  It is essential to keep the path of elimination open and functioning properly.  By decreasing the toxicity of the colon, lymphatic release is stimulated.
