Your vision is the most highly developed and utilized of the all senses.  Yet, most people overlook the importance of maintaining healthy eyes until there is actually a problem.  To give you an idea, less than 50 percent of Americans get their eyes examined at least every two years despite the fact that most adults consider vision their most important sense.  Visual impairment has been identified as one of the four most significant contributors to lost independence among older Americans (Alliance for Aging Research).  People see the pediatrician or the family doctor for physicals, on a regular basis, but neglecting the eyes can have serious ramifications.
During a comprehensive eye exam, the eye doctor does much more than just determine your prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses.  He or she will also check your eyes for common eye diseases, assess how your eyes work together as a team and evaluate your eyes as an indicator of your overall health.  Also, an eye exam is the only way for a doctor to see the health of your blood vessels without invasive surgery.

It is highly recommended that everyone get an eye exam every one to two years.  The reason for this is that eyes can reveal such diseases as glaucoma, diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, and cataracts.  Did you know that 12.2 million adults require some form of vision correction but don’t use any (National Institutes for Health) or that diabetic retinopathy affects more than 5.3 million Americans age 18 and older (The Eye Digest)?  One in five people are at risk for vision loss, and many of the problems could have been addressed through preventive care.

I am Dr. Gezukarayan and I urge you to take good care of your health, including your eye health.  Pick up the phone and call us to get your eyes examined.  I will answer all of your questions and provide you with models of the eye to further depict my explanations.
