Mr. E.W. Waldeck needed a wheelchair ramp and availed himself of the Handyworker Services Department at the SCV Senior Center to meet that need.  Department Supervisor Frank Pascoe, Handyworkers Bob Belendez, and Francis Williams, and Executive Director Brad Berens were the recipients of Wally’s thanks on October 30.  He had plaques of appreciation made for each stating: “Presented to SCV Senior Center and, Frank Pascoe, Bob Belendez and Francis Williams. For the installation of a wheelchair ramp for my use E.W. ‘Wally’ Waldeck 10/6/09.”
His gracious public appreciation makes all Senior Center staff and especially the Handyworkers feel great about working toward a mission of independence, dignity, and quality of life for everyone on the aging continuum!
This Senior Center program provides free minor home repairs to owner- and renter-occupied houses, mobile homes, and condominiums where income-eligible participants reside.  These Community Development Block Grant programs address health and safety hazards as well as code violations and blighted appearances, and therefore, also act as a preventive measure against community blight.
