Coronavirus and Dentists
COVID-19, the disease caused by the Novel Coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, has become a force to be reckoned with. Symptoms of COVID-19 can include fever, cough, and shortness of breath appearing two to 14 days after exposure. The spread of the virus is by respiratory droplets produced by sick people when they cough or sneeze. As the entire world is bracing itself and trying to contain the spread of virus in general, the world of dentistry has been very prepared for this kind of threat.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes that the dental community has been doing a very good job of protecting the patients via state-of-the-art infection control practices. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including masks, gloves, protective eyewear, and gowns has led to better protection for the staff and patients. The use of disinfectants, up-to-date sterilization practices, dedicated hand washing, and one-time-use disposable materials also have helped facilitate safe dental visits for the patients.
In addition to the above standard precautions which are in compliance with CDC guidelines, we, at Noa Dental, have posted a sign that instructs patients with symptoms, or those that have traveled from the affected countries within last 14 days to reschedule their appointment and call their physician if they feel sick. We have also placed additional hand sanitizers and disinfectant wipes for patients’ use and have added an option for patients to wait in their car if they don’t feel comfortable waiting in the lobby until they are ready to be seen.
As these are trying times, we wanted to let you know how we are staying vigilant and employing additional measures to protect our patients at our office. Please stay vigilant as well and keep yourself healthy and safe.
