I have worked in physical therapy for over 20 years, and I have seen thousands of patients over this span.  I became a physical therapist for many reasons, but most importantly I became a physical therapist because I wanted a job where I could work with and help people.
Over the years I have seen incredible human tragedy and pain, as well as tremendous courage and miraculous triumphs.  I’ve found that being a physical therapist is much more than understanding muscles and bones; it’s more about caring, motivating, inspiring, and guiding people to help them help themselves.
I generally believe people fit into one of three categories when it comes to getting better from an injury.  On one end of the spectrum, there are the people that are going to get better with or without my intervention.  They are motivated, positive and will continue to work as hard as it takes to reach their goals.  At the other end of the spectrum there are those that no matter what I do for them they will never get better.  They are more negative and almost seem to enjoy the “benefits” of being ill.  Most people fit into the middle or third category.  These are the people that want to get well but just need a little help and guidance to get there.  They are the people that I can help the most.  I have many tools to help them.  I know how to evaluate what problem they are having.  I know the right exercises and/or activities to give them to correct the problem.  Most importantly, I know how to encourage them and comfort them.  I have learned that once someone believes they can achieve their goals, they usually will.
When someone comes to see me for help I always remember that this person trusts me and probably feels very vulnerable.  I owe it to them to do my best for them and always be honest with them.  It is important that you know that if you come to my office for help, my staff and I will do our best for you.  Even after all these years of practice, there still is no greater feeling than to help someone overcome whatever it is that’s challenging them.
