Education and Rewards for Motorcyclists Part of New Program!

It’s a sobering fact.  Santa Clarita has seen a 39 percent increase in motorcycle-related accidents since 2007, with five incidents resulting in fatalities.  To reduce the amount of motorcycle-related accidents and fatalities, the City of Santa Clarita and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Department are launching a new motorcycle safety program this spring that includes a local motorcycle training and education program and local business rewards.

IRS Investigators To Focus on Unreported Income

Internal documents released by the IRS, coupled with public comments from IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman, leave little doubt the government will focus the brunt of its enforcement efforts on taxpayers who use offshore bank accounts to hide income.
In the meantime, the IRS is offering temporary amnesty to those taxpayers hiding money overseas.  Taxpayers who come forward will face fines, penalties and interests — but the IRS will waive all criminal charges, Shulman announced.

If you owe a debt to someone else and they cancel or forgive that debt, the canceled amount may be taxable.  The Mortgage Debt Relief Act of 2007 generally allows taxpayers to exclude income from the discharge of debt on their principal residence.  Debt reduced through mortgage restructuring, as well as mortgage debt forgiven in connection with a foreclosure, qualifies for the relief.
