The City of Santa Clarita was one of 15 cities honored at the 2007 Mayors’ Climate Protection Awards Program by the United States Conference of Mayors. The awards recognize and honor mayors for outstanding and innovative practices that mayors are taking to increase energy efficiency in their cities and to help curb global warming.
Circle of Hope’s Theatrical Afternoon Tea Fundraiser
In the spirit of the Victorians, who invented the tradition of afternoon tea, high tea has been reborn in Newhall and dare we say it, improved. Circle of Hope’s signature fundraiser, normally the last weekend of September, will be Saturday, September 29 and Sunday, September 30 between noon and 3 p.m. This event is the essence of tea and fun. Tickets are only $50, quite a bargain for food and entertainment. Tables of 8 may be reserved; otherwise all seats are unreserved, on a first-come basis.
Volunteers Can Learn Tricks of the Haunt Trade in Real Haunted House
The community will get together and have a scary good time at the Heritage Junction Halloween Haunt and Craft Fair. The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society, a non-profit organization working to better the history of the SCV, will be hosting this Halloween event on several weekends in October 2007. It is a fun safe place where families can have not only an educational experience, but also a ghostly encounter as well.

Step Out to Fight Diabetes!
Once again, Santa Clarita residents are taking to the streets to walk in support of finding a cure for diabetes. Nationally, over 200,000 walkers join forces to make a difference to someone they know by supporting the American Diabetes Association’s premier fund raising event. In Santa Clarita alone, over 20,000 people are living with diabetes. Local sponsors lending their support to the Walk include the MannKind Corporation, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, Newhall Land and Farm, and Mann Biomedical.

Itâs Time to Sign Up with Escape and Join the Cast of Oliver
Escape Theatre recently performed “Peter Pan” this past June at the College of the Canyons Performing Arts Center. The talented 240 kids involved were incredible, along with the amazing flying effects, unbelievable dancing and a 17-piece orchestra that accompanied them. Over 4,300 people from the community came and supported the production.
