Five Secrets to Goal Attainment
We all have goals, but there are a few keys that will greatly enhance your ability to achieve them. What follows is a check-list to increase your effectiveness.
Secret One – Define what you want in specific terms. As Yogi Berra once said, “If you don’t know where you’re going, you may end up some place else.” If you want wealth, state how much and by when. For example, “I want to be earning $250,000 a year as a financial advisor by January 2011.
Stop Smoking with Acupuncture
Among current U.S. adult smokers, 70 percent report that they want to quit smoking and millions try to quit every year. Acupuncture is often a court-mandated treatment for drug addicts because of its ability to reduce cravings and alleviate withdrawal symptoms such as irritability, anxiety and difficulty concentrating.
A Formidable Addiction
The Space Lift
The concept of removing fat from one part of the body and injecting it into another part is one of the most exciting concepts to be added to the field of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. While fat transplantation has been done in various ways for some time (first recorded in the late 1800s), the concept of fat transplantation by microinjection is relatively new.
Why would we want to use fat as a grafting tool? For one thing, we should realize that one of the main causes of aging is the apparent loss of fat in one’s face.
Do You Truly Love?
True love may be identified as feelings, what we get from relationships or what’s provided. Though common views, I’ve found that none of these seem to endure or hold relationships together.
True love exists when people prioritize caring for the happiness and well-being of the other. When we prioritize our personal happiness, we’re often left with emptiness following moments of pleasure. When the joys and accomplishments of loved ones bring us happiness, our joy is endless.
For The Love of Fat
I have a confession to make… I love fat… and lots of it! But not just any fat, I prefer the delectable saturated variety. Wonderful raw cheeses, real butter, cream, avocados, nuts and even the most sinful kind… the fat on my grass-fed, pastured raised beef and poultry!
I can see the horror and disbelief in your eyes. Surely her coronary arteries are completely clogged with cholesterol, affecting her brain, and dare we say… she’s probably fat as well?
How Are You Thinking/Living Your Life?
“Remember, happiness doesn’t depend upon who you are or what you have; it depends solely upon how you think.” The wisdom of this philosophy from Dale Carnegie lends insight into just how important and powerful our thoughts are in affecting the quality of our lives. “All that we are; is the result of what we have thought.” – Buddha. Everything starts with our minds: our thoughts affect our feelings, our feelings affect our behavior, and our behavior is our actions. If you want to test the power of your thoughts take a moment to think about something negative and see how it makes you feel. Now try it again with positive thoughts.
Vitamin D: The Sunshine Vitamin
Vitamin D is called the sunshine vitamin because the human skin makes vitamin D when it is exposed to natural sunlight. However, in modern western society our time in the sun and the use of sun screens are cutting down on our exposure to the sun, which is good to prevent skin cancer, but could be lowering the production of Vitamin D. Even weak sunscreens (SPF8) block your body’s ability to generate vitamin D by 95 percent. It is estimated that 40 percent of the U.S. population is vitamin D deficient and 48 percent of young girls (nine to 11 years old) are vitamin D deficient. Vitamin D is perhaps the single most underrated nutrient in the world of nutrition.
Oatmeal for Breakfast… Good or Bad?
Often people think they are “eating healthy” when they are actually contributing to pain, inflammation, digestive symptoms, blood sugar issues and even mood and cognitive dysfunction!
“Oatmeal for breakfast” is a common misconception about eating healthy. If a person is gluten-sensitive, having oatmeal for breakfast (a gluten grain) is not a good idea. Advertisements promote it as being beneficial but doing our own research is better than believing what we see on television or read in magazines and books.
Mother Issues
First, I’d like to wish all the wonderful, hard working and caring mothers out there a very Happy Mother’s Day. I’d particularly like to thank my mom for everything she has done and continues to do for our family, her selfless ways of giving and her continued caring and encouragement has made me who I am today. Thanks Mom and Happy Mother’s Day!
Ask the Right Questions to Make the Most of Your Cosmetic Surgery Consultation
To make the most of your cosmetic surgery consultation, it’s a good idea to ask the right questions during your visit. The following are some guidelines.
Ask if the doctor is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). When a doctor claims to be “board certified,” ask by which board. Only one, the American Board of Plastic Surgery, is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties to certify doctors in the specialty of plastic surgery.
Hypnosis and Therapy Versus Medications?
Pharmaceutical companies spend billons of dollars convincing people to use medication rather than learn how to treat their problems. Even though medication is sometimes beneficial, or necessary, mental health professionals are often too quick to medicate without exploring other options that might be even more helpful. Here are just some of the arguments that mental health professionals have for therapy over medication:

Staying Independent – Alzheimer’s Disease
Question: My father has Alzheimer’s disease which saddens our family tremendously. What services are available for him and is it realistic to think we can care for him for the remainder of his life? He’s 77 years old.
Answer: One of the great fears faced by older people and those they love is the loss of memory and mental capacity. Alzheimer’s disease and the more than 50 types of dementia gradually rob individuals of their memory, personality, and ability to perform even simple activities. Friends and family become strangers, and home, an unfamiliar place. With time, the disease progresses and the person needs more and more care, taking a toll on the spouse and family caregivers.
Micro-Air Abrasion Versus Laser Dentistry
Dentistry is continually evolving and we welcome the new technology in our practice to benefit our patients with increased efficiency, conservation of tooth structure, and greater comfort. With the advancement of lasers in dentistry we have researched whether our existing procedures should be renovated.
Lasers in dentistry are an alternative to “drilling” but how do they compare to micro air abrasion?
Prevent Your Child from Getting This Painful Foot Problem
Parents can prevent a common childhood foot problem by following some simple recommendations, according to Valencia foot and ankle surgeons.
Valencia foot and ankle surgeons, Leslie G. Levy and Dana Lavian, DPM, FACFAS, say ingrown toenails are one of the most frequent conditions they treat in children. Many kids hide their ingrown toenails from their parents, even though the condition can cause significant pain. An ingrown nail can break the skin and lead to dangerous infections.
Make Smoking a Thing of the Past
Smoking affects the long-term health of smokers and nonsmokers alike, and has been identified as the number one health risk in California. That’s why Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital is urging smokers to heed the advice of physicians and the Surgeon General and make smoking a thing of the past.
“With smoking being one of the top health risk factors associated with cancer today, we believe that quitting is the most important step an individual can take to manage their health,” reports Peter Jaeger, RRT-NPS- TTS, Henry Mayo’s Smoking Cessation Program clinical manager.
Irregular Menstruation
Irregular menstruation refers to any abnormal change in menstrual cycle, in quantity and color of flow, and other accompanying symptoms. Commonly seen cases are antedated and postdated menstruation, irregular menstrual cycle. Menstruation earlier than due time by seven to eight days, or even twice a month, is regarded as antedated menstruation, while menses later than due time by eight to nine days or even once every forty to fifty days is considered as postdated menstruation.
Are You Encouraging Your Employees to Stay Healthy?
National Employee Health & Fitness Day™ is the third Wednesday in May each year. Administered annually by the National Association for Health & Fitness, NEHF is a national health observance, created to promote the benefits of physical activity for individuals through their work site health promotion activities.
Why should employers care about promoting health and fitness? Healthy employees are more productive employees, and employers may notice decreased rates of illness and injuries as well as reduced employee absenteeism among a healthy workforce. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, worksite interventions can be delivered creatively through the following methods:
At the worksite (e.g., signs to encourage stair use, health education classes)
