Don’t Be a Fool — Pick Up the Free Tools!

Don’t Be a Fool — Pick Up the Free Tools!

I have a theory about life.  I believe it is designed to be a series of learning experiences.  The goal is to reach life’s end more enriched than when we began and with the world better than when we found it.  According to my theory, we can enrich ourselves and others by navigating through each in a series of life challenges/opportunities.  I call these tests ‘learning simulations.’  Here is how I think it works:

Academy of the Canyons Named One of America’s Best High Schools

Academy of the Canyons Named One of America’s Best High Schools

Academy of the Canyons, the Wm. S. Hart High School District’s middle college high school, has been named one of America’s Best High Schools by U.S. News & World Report, placing it in the top 10 percent of high schools across the nation.
In selecting its America’s Best High Schools award recipients, the magazine analyzed nearly 22,000 public high schools in 48 states plus the District of Columbia.  The award is based on the key principles that a great high school must serve all of its students well, not just those who are college bound, and that it must be able to produce measurable academic results to show that the school is successfully educating its student body across a range of performance indicators.

Bankruptcy Qualifications: What Counts as Income?

Bankruptcy Qualifications: What Counts as Income?

When Congress enacted the new bankruptcy law in October of 2005, they created a Means Test, which was designed to determine (in most cases) which Chapter of bankruptcy an individual or couple qualifies for.  Because there are many variations on how people receive income, and the types of income they receive, the Means Test was left open to interpretation in many areas, which has created confusion among judges, trustees and attorneys, and which has promoted litigation and opinions to try to resolve some of the ambiguities and/or inconsistencies.

To Divorce or Not To Divorce That Is The Question

To Divorce or Not To Divorce That Is The Question

There are two ways of being rich.  One is to have all you want, and the other is to be satisfied with what you have. – Unknown
How do you decide that you are ready for a divorce?  Making this decision is one of the most difficult struggles we face in life.  Am I making the right choice?  Am I choosing for the right reason?  Is hope to salvage the marriage truly gone?

California Common Law Marriage A Misconception

California Common Law Marriage A Misconception

As a family law attorney, I find that many people are misinformed about California family law.  Perhaps one of the most common misconceptions I come across is regarding “common law marriage.”  I have heard people say that they are married by “common law” because they have been living together for a certain number of years.  I would like to clear up this misconception once and for all and state that in California, there is no “common law marriage.”

How to Make Managing Your Insurance Easier and Save Money at the Same Time

How to Make Managing Your Insurance Easier and Save Money at the Same Time

Whether it’s for your business or personal life, or a combination of both, the answer to simplifying the management of your insurance policies and saving money is far from complicated.  All you need to do is find one agent who is trustworthy and knowledgeable, and provides great service.  If he represents one leading insurance company and provides all or most of the coverage you need through that entity, all the better.  Here’s why.

What is a Foster Family Agency?

What is a Foster Family Agency?

What is a Foster Family Agency?  A Foster Family Agency, or FFA, is a private, community based, nonprofit organization licensed by the State of California to provide foster family care.  With this license, FFAs are contracted to recruit, train, and certify quality homes that are able and willing to provide the love and nurturance that children need.

The Kiss of Death in Family Law Cases

The Kiss of Death in Family Law Cases

Everyone has the right to appeal.  Keep in mind that about 98 percent of all cases settle at some point.
A small percentage of cases do go to trial, and a percentage of those cases will be appealed.  Family law cases are different from civil appeals because in family law trials, there is no jury.  You have either a judge or a court commissioner.  That person will make all of the determinations of facts and law.

Your Small Business and Financial Planning

Your Small Business and Financial Planning

If you are like most small business owners, your personal life and business life are practically inseparable.  That is why it is so important to take a look at your business in the same way that you would look at financial planning for yourself.
Financial Planning – Financial planning for your small business is a process that recognizes the interrelationship of the following six components:

Children Need Safe and Loving Homes

Children Need Safe and Loving Homes

Every child deserves to have a safe, loving and permanent home.  With 129,000 children currently in foster care, Children’s Bureau is seeking caring families to consider adoption.  The agency is holding a monthly information meeting for those interested in learning more on Thursday, March 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Six Flags Magic Mountain Administrative Offices located at 26101 Magic Mountain Parkway, Valencia, CA 91355.

Free Wills and Trusts Seminar

Free Wills and Trusts Seminar

As many of you know, one of my areas of practice is estate planning which involves protecting oneself and one’s family with solid legal documents such as living trusts, wills, powers of attorney, health care directives, guardianship nominations, and much more.  Since this is often regarded as a mysterious area of law, I really enjoy “demystifying” it through education.

You Are Never Too Old To Exercise Use It or Lose It!

You Are Never Too Old To Exercise Use It or Lose It!

We have all heard the saying, “Use it or lose it” when it comes to exercise programs.  It couldn’t be truer!  Regular physical activity can help the human body maintain, repair, and improve itself.  Anyone, regardless of his or her age, can benefit from an exercise program.  In fact, most seniors – even those with illnesses or disabilities – can take part in some form of an exercise program!  People who exercise regularly will benefit in many ways:
