With Your Family in Mind
Will you Divorce with Me? We Are In This Together!
Ironic no? “Will you marry me,” and “We are in this together,” change a couple words around and I think I just proposed to you? Oddly similar to when you are falling in love and living in that weird love haze, when you are falling out of it, and in a new kind of separation or divorce haze, you just may need a snap out of it eye opener. Who ever invented Valentine’s Day really does need to read the real story behind it. That my friends is marketing at its best. So, here is your snap out of it list to keep things straight in your head, in your heart and in your mind, when choosing an attorney. While I hope the Law Office of Steven B. Chroman is your ultimate choice, I believe everyone deserves to find the right match for themselves. Here’s to loving again and finding the way to your Happily Ever After. Ask these questions when interviewing an attorney.
The Right Stepping Stone for Your Career
Sometimes, you can find your calling in the most unusual places. In Kristie Hamilton’s case, she found it at the dental office. As a kid, she had always been intrigued by what goes on in the chair. She would ask her dentist – or hygienist – if she could have a mirror, so she could watch the dental work being done in her own mouth. When she told her high school counselor about going into dentistry, however, her counselor discouraged her because of her grades.

What is Medi-Cal Recovery?
I met with an elderly woman recently. Her husband was ill, and after a brief hospitalization, was now in a skilled nursing facility. Although he was better and alert, he still required constant care and attention. At her age and physical limitations, she simply could not provide the high level of care he needed in their home. He was going to remain in the skilled nursing facility.
My Trauma Journey
I want to devote my article this month to a plethora of thank you’s to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital and their incredible staff of doctors, nurses and physical/occupational therapists. I was seriously injured in a tractor accident on September 28. It resulted in a broken right ankle, requiring screws and a plate, a broken left femur and left hip, requiring a titanium shaft both in the hip and femur. Also, crush injuries to my left thigh and abdomen, broken ribs, a broken scapula, and internal chest bleeding.
Mandated Versus Private Divorce Mediation: Is there a Difference?
When couples make the decision to legally separate or dissolve their marriage, they have more options than to just muddle through it on their own or retain attorneys and go to battle. Discovering what those alternatives are is part of the education process we offer couples as they embark on their journey to transition into the next phase of their lives.
Choosing Your Divorce Lawyer
Lawyers are different. None of us are the same. I was listening to a continuing legal education CD in my car recently and the advice the lawyer was giving was that if a lawyer has a “difficult” client that doesn’t want to listen, sometimes the best thing to do is to bring another lawyer in to talk to your client with a different personality style. And that got me to thinking.

Koinonia Family Services is now serving the Santa Clarita and San Fernando Valleys, and is looking for families who want to provide safe, caring, and nurturing homes for children who are in need of short-term or long-term placement.
When Isn’t a Living Trust Enough?
John and Jane Jackson (not their real names) had four adult sons. The Jacksons had no wills. They wanted to leave their house and most of their financial assets to son Jimmie, who lived with them. They filled in the blanks of a do-it-yourself living trust software package and signed the Trust Agreement.
They were killed by a drunk driver.
Changes to California Family Law in 2015
Every year the California State Legislature enacts laws, many of which go into effect on January 1, 2015. It is important to note changes which could affect your (or a loved one’s) family law case.
The most exciting and wide-spread change for 2015 is the definition of “marriage” and incorporating the holding in Hollingsworth v. Perry, which overturned Proposition 8 (defining marriage as between a man and a woman).

A Healthy Start to the New Year!
Making wise decisions about what you eat as you get older is important. Research shows that it’s not too late for smart food choices and other good health habits like being physically active, to help reduce your risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and osteoporosis. The goal is to make healthy lifestyle choices so you can stay active in the coming years. The foods you eat and your level of exercise is related. Because our metabolism slows with age, if you continue eating the same amount and types of food but do not become more active, you may gain weight. What you eat and how active you are keeps your weight in balance.
Observation Stays in the Hospital Appeal Packet Provided by Center for Medicare and Medicaid Advocacy
Under the Medicare statute, an individual must have an inpatient stay in the hospital of at least three consecutive days, not counting the day of discharge, in order to meet Medicare criteria for coverage if the individual is thereafter transferred to a skilled nursing facility (SNF) for further assistance. Medicare beneficiaries are being denied access to Medicare coverage for SNF stays because of the growing use of “observation status” in the hospital setting.
Just Do It! Time for A New Year and A New You!
This year, D-Day falls on January 5. It is the start of the first full working week after New Year, and the day when warring spouses are most likely to instigate divorce proceedings against one another.
After holding fire over the festive season, whether for the sake of the children, the relatives or appearances, more couples seek to end their marriages in early January than at any other time of the year.

You’ve often heard it said: People don’t like going to the dentist. Maybe they’re scared of “the drill”. Maybe they hate getting their mouths “inspected”. Whatever the reason, for many people, dental offices don’t really rank high on their list of favorite places to be.
