Why not incorporate a few games into the event.  They work great as icebreakers and it’s a fun way to get everyone participating.  Here are a few tried and true games to think about:
* Wedding Scramble — Compile a list of wedding-related words and scramble them.  Give guests a copy of the list and ask them to try to make sense of the words.  Set a time limit of 5 minutes.  The person with the most correct words wins.

* How well do you know the bride?   — With the bride (so you make sure you have the correct answers) come up with 20 questions relating to the bride and groom.  This will test the guests’ knowledge on the happy couple and let them learn what they don’t know!  List the question on paper, with four multiple-choice answers.  Give a copy to each guest.  Have them record their answers.  When everyone is finished, the guest with the most correct answers wins.

* Candy Game — Pass around a bag of M&Ms.  Tell each guest to take as many as they need.  Once everyone has their candy, go around the room and have them tell one thing about the bride and/or groom for each piece.  This game is best suited for smaller showers, but is a fun way to see how everyone knows the couple.

* Wedding Scattegories — Make up a card with 10 wedding-related ideas, such as: honeymoon location, parts of the church, terms of endearment, wedding party, etc.  Give each guest a copy of the list.  Then, on slips of paper, write the letters of the alphabet.  Have the bride choose a letter.  If the bride chooses “A” for example, the guests are then to think of a word to fit each of their categories that begins with the letter A.  For example: honeymoon location could be Arizona; parts of the church could be altar; terms of endearment could be “amore.”  After three to five minutes, go around the room and read off the answers.  If one guest has the same answer as another, they must cross that answer out and will receive no points for that answer.  Continue choosing letters for a few rounds.  The guest with the most points wins.

* Shower Gift Bingo — Give each guest a card made to look like a blank bingo board (5×5 squares).  At the top, write “BRIDE” instead of bingo.  Before the bride begins to open her gifts, have the guests fill in their cards with 24 things they think the bride might open (remember – the middle space is a free space!).  As she opens her gifts, guests mark on their cards if they’ve written one of her presents.  The first guest to yell “BRIDE” with five correct gifts wins.

Have a number of small presents on hand to give as prizes — everyone loves to win!
