What a great question! Many things come to mind. To my surprise it wasn’t any of those things! I’ve been managing other people’s money for over three decades and my greatest asset wasn’t my wealth of knowledge or vast array of achievements, in fact, it was my inherent ability to handle trust!
To be a trusted advisor! I thought about the many teachers, mentors and loved ones that were my trusted advisors never thinking that I would be one myself, one day.
And, as I look back at the one gift they gave me, I realized it was the ability to be true to myself and to others. To make trust the most important part of my work!
Today, we see and hear so much misinformation, much of which sounds very believable. But, when you look deep into this information, it has nothing to do with trust but more for profit. I can’t control what others believe, but I can do what’s right, one client at a time. I can’t always set an example, but, I can be an example every day of my life.
Providing financial advice is one aspect of what I do, but, providing trusted advice is what makes me who I am. If you’ve been looking for someone you can trust, someone who has your interest at heart, then you might look more for a trusted advisor rather than a successful financial advisor.
