On Wednesday February 27, Remo, Inc. won top recycling honors from the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB).
Remo, Inc. has been manufacturing drums, drumheads and other percussion musical instruments for 50 years and has been incorporating recycling throughout the entire process. Founder and CEO Remo Belli said, “We’re honored with what’s coming down.” The company is one of five environmentally friendly businesses to receive the Waste Reduction Awards Program of the Year (WOTY). Rosalie Mule, board member of the California Environmental Protection Agency, presented the prestigious award. “It is a highly competitive process with over 1,000 applicants every year for the award,” Mule said.
With the help of a recycling consultant, Remo has recycled some 420 tons of plastic, cardboard, paper, metal and shipping supplies. They also recycle plastic film, including 158 tons of leftover PET-Mylar scrap from manufacturing, which is enough to fill about eight shipping containers and use 100 percent recycled content to create their drum kits. Mule expressed that the companies they pick have a true commitment to sustainability and have made a positive impact throughout the entire world. Manuel Solis, Plant Manager of Remo, said the company plans on furthering their recycling efforts in the future by investing in the process of turning waste products into energy.
