And why shouldn’t our feet hurt?  We cram them into ill-fitted shoes with inadequate support we gain weight and expect them to carry it and we run them into the ground.  Foot pain means something is wrong and feet are more complex than you may realize.  Did you know that 25 percent of the bones in the body are in your feet? Our feet are a complex system of 52 bones, 66 joints, 214 ligaments and 38 muscles and tendons. It is no wonder that 75 percent of North Americans will experience foot health problems of varying degrees, at some point in their lives.
Bad feet can lead to bad backs, knees and hips.  As you age you lose protective fat on the bottom of your feet.  So why do we think it’s normal for our feet to hurt?  People either don’t know something can be done, or they don’t know who to go to.  Now at Unruh Chiropractic a biomechanical assessment can be performed utilizing the latest in computerized technology.

If pain is caused by something mechanical, how the foot is shaped, abnormal gait, or abnormal function, the proper kind of orthotic is indispensable to help ensure the joints are aligned correctly.  In a foot with a high arch that isn’t supported properly, the joint surfaces aren’t right, which can lead to bone spurs and cartilage destruction.  This can in turn lead to heal pain, common among people ages 40 to 60 and caused by tension on the plantar fascia, the fibrous ligament on the bottom of the foot.

With the new computerized Gait Scan technology we can correct structural weakness before they cause major deformity of the feet, knees, hips, and back. The Gait Scan System is equipped with approximately 4,096 pressure sensors reading at 300 times per second.  This is the first time technology can now examine the dynamics of your gait and how your feet actually function.  Any imbalance can be detected.
