Many people have tried to quit smoking and find that it really is a very difficult addiction to beat.  Some people even say that it is harder to quit than harder drugs such as heroin or cocaine.  It is important to note that acupuncture does not offer a magic cure for addiction, but it does make it far easier to quit and remain smoke free. If you are ready to quit let us help you take control and restart your life smoke free.

Traditional Eastern Medicine works by treating the symptoms that are unique to each person.  Dr. Koh uses techniques such as acupuncture, Chinese herbs, bodywork, lifestyle/dietary recommendations and energetic exercises to restore imbalances found in the body.

For your first appointment Dr. Koh will do an interview to learn about your personal smoking habits and perform a physical examination, including blood pressure, taking the pulse and observing the tongue.  You will be asked about specific emotional and physical symptoms that you are experiencing to help create a treatment plan specifically for you.  The acupuncture treatments will focus on the jitters, the cravings, the irritability, and the restlessness that people commonly complain about when they quit. It will also aid in relaxation and detoxification.

A stop-smoking program will often consist of four to six initial treatments scheduled in the first few weeks followed by monthly treatments for a few months.  Typical treatments last from five to 30 minutes, with the patient being treated one or two times a week.  After the acupuncture treatments, ear press needles, silver pellets or medicated balls are often applied to stimulate the points between treatments and reduce cravings.  You simply push on the points on your ear whenever you get the chance and this really does help.  Exercise is encouraged and dietary and support systems are recommended to rid the body of toxins and avoid relapses.  Some symptoms are relieved after the first treatment, while more severe or chronic ailments often require multiple treatments.  If it is your first or 50th time to quit, don’t be discouraged. You can do it and we will help.

Dr. Koh is one of a few select doctors of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (DAOM) in the United States.  Dr. Koh has extensive experience as an educator, currently being a professor at Stanton University.
