Split ends are very damaging to hair if not treated as soon as possible. Many people aren’t quite sure whether they have them or not. They can be tricky to find, depending on your hair color and type… So how can you tell if you have split ends?
You know that you have split ends when your hair is starting to have a lot of tangles when you comb it or if it looks uneven or frayed. There are more variations of split ends than you may think! If any strands of your hair look like they are split, you need to get it treated immediately.
The regular split is the most common form of split end, where there is just one Y split at the end. There are also triple or multiple splits, feather splits, double Y splits, long or deep splits, holes in the hair shaft and more! You can use a magnifying glass if the split ends are too hard for you to see.
If you’re really unable to detect your split ends, ask your hairdresser. They will be able to help you get rid of them if you have any! Try going to a salon regularly, especially if you have curly hair or want to maintain a certain cut.
Don’t try to break the split ends yourself; this will not get rid of the split end. Always use hair shears, even if you are cutting only one strand. Regular paper scissors can fray your ends and cause more splits down the road. And stay away from heat, chemicals, and shampooing too often.
Edna’s Salon and Spa provides a special Split End Repairing Treatment, which is a service performed only on the ends of the hair to instantly repair, mend and seal broken and split ends. The bonding system is a heat-activated, protein-enriched technology that instantly gathers and binds together broken and split ends while smoothing the cuticle. The end result is stronger, healthier ends defended against damage caused by heat styling, hot tools and environmental stress.
