There’s a lot of planning involved when you put on a show like Dancing With Our Stars, and for the last six months we have been diligently working to produce a fantastic show for our community.  What an amazing moment it was when 16 Santa Clarita celebrities and their professional dancers took the stage to raise money for our local non-profit organizations.  The 5th Annual Dancing With Our Stars event raised $195,000 for our local charities, bringing our grand total to nearly $875,000 in the last five years, and we could not have done it without the generosity of many people.

Thank you to our celebrities and their dancers, who spent countless hours rehearsing and fundraising, and thank you to D’Wilfri DanceArt & Entertainment for all your hard work.  A special thank you goes to the Hart High Dance team for opening the evening with an award winning performance, to our evening’s sponsors, Mike Bjorkman of HomeSmart Real Estate, Whitening Lightning and The City of Santa Clarita, and to our three guest judges who entertained the nearly sold out crowd, Chris Schauble, Marlee Lauffer and Cheri Fleming.  Turn to page 16 to see some of the many photos taken that evening in our On the Town with The Magazine of Santa Clarita feature.
October is a very busy month for Santa Clarita as it is packed with many fun events for you to enjoy.  We are pleased to feature three exciting events on the cover of this issue.
One of Santa Clarita’s well-attended events is the Child & Family Center’s Kid Expo, which will be taking place on Sunday, October 12, our first cover story.  Be sure and stop by our booth and get your photo taken by The Magazine of Santa Clarita, and enjoy all the Kid Expo has to offer!  See opposite details for information about this year’s Expo.  We have also highlighted some of the businesses that will be featured at the Kid Expo in our Kids Expo Directory beginning on page 86.
Get ready for an evening of fun as the Glenn Miller Orchestra comes to the SCV, our second cover story.  Directed by Nick Hilscher, the Orchestra will be coming to West Ranch High School on Thursday, October 16 and will present a selection of material including compositions from the original band.  See opposite page for more information.
Be sure and join the Soroptimist International of Greater SCV, our third cover story, as they will host the Wine Affair on Sunday, October 26.  It will be an afternoon of fine wine as guests indulge in wine and great music along Town Center Drive, all to support a great cause.  See page 6 for details.
The rubber duckies are at it again!  Come out and see the ducks race on Saturday, October 4, for the Samuel Dixon Family Health Center’s Rubber Ducky Festival, which will return to Bridgeport Park.  For more information, turn to page 20.

It wouldn’t be a complete weekend without another fun event!  Join the Soroptimist International of Santa Clarita Valley as they host their annual Bras for a Cause event, which will take place on Sunday, October 5, also at Bridgeport Park.  See page 8 for details.
With the holiday season just around the corner, we decided to provide you with a Guide to Physical Fitness and a comprehensive Medical Guide to help you end the year getting healthy and staying fit.  Turn to page 115 for our Physical Fitness Guide and page 125 for our Medical Guide.
There’s much to do this month, so don’t forget to stop and enjoy all the new season has to offer.  Happy fall, and have a wonderful and safe Halloween.
Until next time,
