Fat transfer is a procedure where fat is removed from a patient’s body and transferred to another place where fat isn’t as plentiful. Fat is a wonderful, natural cushion for parts of the body that need added volume, roundness, or plumping. Fat transfer involves liposculpting (by using liposuction) to remove fat from areas such as the hips, outer thighs, and/or abdomen.

Patients can reshape their body contours to look just the way they want because fat is able to be sculpted, much like a clay sculpture. Then, the fat that was removed from the harvest areas can be injected into other areas of the body for cosmetic enhancement.
Good candidates for fat transfer are patients who have enough body fat in the areas that are being harvested from.  Fat transfer can be performed under general anesthetic or local anesthetic.
What is fat transfer to the face?
If you are unhappy with the effects of aging on your face, a fat transfer to the face may be a good option for you. A fat transfer corrects the effects of aging by removing fat from the abdomen, thighs, or other areas and transferring it by injection to the desired areas of the face.
You may want fat transfer to the face if you have:
• Laugh or smile lines
• Loss of volume in the face
• The desire for a more youthful looking face
Dr. Lahijani can apply a fat transfer for a variety of facial enhancements. Using liposuction, he will remove fat from the abdomen or thighs and transfer it for injection into specified areas of the face. The liposuction procedure will not leave the affected area looking slimmer; however the face will appear fuller and more youthful.  Fat transfer is done under local or general anesthesia.
