The history of permanent makeup goes back to the start of the 20th century where it was generally concealed back in the day. An early tatooist from the 30’s who was a major developer of the technique has described in his memoirs how beauty salons tattooed many women offering it as a complexion treatment of injected dyes under the top layer of the skin.

The process is just like getting a tattoo. Proper sterilization, techniques and licensing are key. Permanent makeup today has enhanced features of a face by defining one’s eyebrows, eyes and lips by the use of color. It is also used to apply eyebrows especially, in people who may have lost them due to old age, disease, such as alopecia totalis, chemotherapy or because of genetics or it may be used to help disguise scars and white spots in a person’s skin. The results can imitate topically applied cosmetics or can even be quite noticeable, depending upon the design, color and amount of pigment used. The color will soften within a few days during the healing process as the upper layer of epidermis slough and are replaced by new epidermal cells.
The permanent makeup pigment will remain in the dermis and the beauty span will be influenced by several factors. The results can perform for many years or they may begin to fade over time. The environment, procedural and individual factors, and sun exposure will fade color. The amounts of color pigment deposited at the dermal level can also affect the length of time that permanent makeup looks its best. Of course, a very natural looking application is less likely to require a touch-up before more dramatic applications. Also, individual influences include lifestyles that find a person who is regularly in the sun. Skin tones, as well, are a factor in color value changes over time.
Most women welcome permanent makeup enhancement as they can wake up knowing they don’t have to apply their regular makeup routine and any imperfections are enhanced by the overall results of permanent makeup. Make sure whomever does your permanent makeup is a skilled person and licensed.
